About Me
My name is Chloe Snook and I am based in Orlando, FL. Through oil paintings, ceramic sculptures, and printmaking, my work navigates the intricate landscapes of human connection, societal control, and resilience. As a Chinese adoptee born under the One Child Policy I aim to explore the scars the policy has left behind, both culturally and relationally. I explore the tensions between intimacy and oppression, weaving together narratives of interpersonal relationships, Chinese politics, and the struggle for individual autonomy.
Throughout my work there are references to the dominance of East Asian media and its iconography like the school uniform, the prevalence of romance dramas, and K-Pop. I aim to illustrate the ways in which personal narratives intersect with broader social forces, revealing the fragility and strength of the human experience.
I wanted to explore how grief is experienced by all people affected under the One Child Policy, from the parents, to the adoptees. It’s really important to me to make these stories known.
I invite viewers to contemplate these intersections of vulnerability, resistance, and hope. These experiences are essential to the human experience highlighting the stories and lives of those which would otherwise be forgotten.
